Q: What is the Great Escape? How do you play?

A: The Great Escape is a live adventure game that takes place in a real world environment instead of on a computer screen or as a board game. Players are all in an actual room. They must escape by interacting with the environment, solving puzzles, deciphering riddles, and figuring out codes. Players have 60 minutes to complete the game in order to win. Unlike video games, this game can be experienced first hand with your friends and you can feel the excitement of a true first person experience. You are an actual participant in an interesting and exciting story. This game is more brainy than scary. Prepare yourself for an hour of entertainment and a challenge that will use your creativity, problem solving abilities and social skills in order to win!

Q: How long does it take?

A: The game itself takes 60 minutes. We do an introduction where we explain the rules of the game and deliver the background story. This takes about 15 minutes. We then proceed to the game room where the clock starts for the 60 minute countdown. After the game is over we do a debrief, answer any questions about the game, interact with with the players, take pictures for your social media, and say our goodbyes. This takes about 15 minutes. So the whole process takes about 1.5 hours. Also we need 30 minutes to reset before the next show. That is why we book at 2 hour intervals.

Q: Will we really be locked in the room? What if I need to leave or there is an emergency.

A: The door leading into the room will not be physically locked for safety's sake, but if you exit without beating the game you have lost and will have to wait for your friends in the lobby. The game room has a washroom. If you need to use the facilities or use your phone to call the babysitter, no problem, you may do it in the bathroom.

Q: Are we allowed to use force or break anything in the escape room?

A: No. While you may physically interact with some elements of the room, you will never need to exert yourself or break anything in order to complete the game. Electrical or plumbing fixtures are part of the house and never need to be touched. In fact, some objects will be labelled "do not touch" and should be left alone entirely. You don’t need anything more than your thumb and index finger to manipulate anything in the room. Also, our Game Master will be in the room with you. They will be able to answer any questions.

Q: How many people can play?

A: This game is set up for teams of 6-10 participants. If your group has fewer than 10 people when you book, the additional space may be booked by other people until the available slots are all filled. This is a socially interactive game and you will gain more success if you play together. If you prefer to play with only your friends you may book an entire session by booking all 10 spots.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Tickets are $25 + HST per person for regular shows that may be booked with as many people in a group as you want up to a maximum of 10. You may have any number in your group - 5, 6, 8, 10. We know from previous experience that 6-10 players is optimal.

Corporate Team Building events are $250 + HST for a group of up to 10. All Team Building events are booked as a group even though less than 10 people might participate. These shows are usually held in the afternoons although we may be able to make accommodations to fit your schedule.

Q: What if I have more than 10 people?

A: We can accommodate larger groups (15-30) by doing back-to-back shows. Shows are at 2 hour intervals and can accommodate up to 10 people per show. We have done many back-to-back shows in the past and they have been very successful. One option is for one group to play while the other enjoys a meal or a refreshing beverage in one of the many local establishments.

Q: Is the game suitable for children?

A: Participants must be 12 or older in order to play. We have learned through experience that young players need to be reminded that, unlike a video game, real object will break if handled roughly. Otherwise they have a great time.

Q: Do you serve alcohol?

A: No, but there is a nice bar around the corner (Gus’ Pub - owned by the same people that own The Great Escape) if you want to enjoy a beverage and talk about the game before of after play.

Q: When should I arrive?

A: Try to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your scheduled game. We need some time to set up the room between groups You are more than welcome to meet and assemble your group at Gus’ Pub ( 2605 Agricola street) which is 30 feet around the corner from The Great Escape. Also keep in mind that if you arrive late you may forfeit your chance to play.

Q: How do I reserve and book tickets.

A: All bookings are made online, via our website only. We do not hold spaces. Payment may be made via credit card or Paypal. We do not accept cash. Booking tickets or finding availability is easy, but here are some step by step instructions if you need them:

  3. Press "Book" (choose a Regular Booking or a Corporate Team Building Event)
  4. Press "Next"
  5. Press "Pick a date"
  6. Pick a time
  7. Fill in participant names ( enter 'tba' if you don't know a name)
  8. Press "Book"
  9. Have a great time at The Great Escape!

Q: How do I find open dates?

A: Finding open dates is easy but here are some step by step instructions if you need them:

  6. If you find a date that you like proceed to checkout.
  7. Have a great time!

Q: Can I cancel my booking?

A: No. All bookings are final, sorry.

Q: Do You have a snow policy?

A: We use Metro Transit as a guide for opening / closing. If the buses are running so are we. If a bad snowstorm hits you will be able to reschedule.

Q: Is parking available?

A: There is street parking available in the area. You may also park in the Gus’ Pub parking lot located to the left of the Pub as you face the building.
